Liverpool demolish Tottenham 6-3 to extend Premier League lead | The Express Tribune

Liverpool stormed four points clear at the top of the Premier League on Sunday with a thrilling 6-3 victory over Tottenham, powered by a masterful display from Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian forward delivered two goals and two assists in a commanding performance that showcased Liverpool’s dominance under manager Arne Slot.

Taking advantage of second-placed Chelsea’s earlier 0-0 draw with Everton, Liverpool solidified their position as title favorites heading into the Christmas period.

Tottenham, on the other hand, struggled to cope with Liverpool’s relentless pressing and fluid attacking play, succumbing to their eighth league defeat of the season.

Salah continued his scintillating form, becoming the only Premier League player this season to reach double figures in both goals (15) and assists (11).

His two strikes moved him into fourth place on Liverpool’s all-time scoring list with 229 goals, surpassing Billy Liddell. Only Ian Rush (346), Roger Hunt (285), and Gordon Hodgson (241) remain ahead of him.

With Salah’s current contract set to expire at the end of the season, his performance underscored Liverpool’s urgency to secure his future. The forward has hinted that this may be his final season at Anfield, adding intrigue to his ongoing contributions.

Liverpool opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when Trent Alexander-Arnold’s pinpoint cross found Luis Díaz, who headed past Fraser Forster from six yards.

The Reds doubled their lead in the 36th minute when Dominik Szoboszlai’s header deflected into the path of Alexis Mac Allister, who nodded home from close range.

Tottenham briefly rallied when James Maddison capitalized on a Mac Allister error to score from 18 yards, but Liverpool restored their dominance just before halftime. Szoboszlai combined brilliantly with Salah, finishing coolly through Forster’s legs to give the visitors a 3-1 lead.

Salah cemented Liverpool’s control in the second half, scoring in the 54th minute with a tap-in after Tottenham failed to clear a Cody Gakpo pass.

Seven minutes later, he struck again from close range, converting a Szoboszlai assist for his sixth goal in five matches across all competitions.

While Tottenham managed late goals through Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke, Salah capped his night with a perfectly weighted assist for Díaz in the 85th minute.

Liverpool’s six-goal haul marked the first time in a decade that Tottenham had conceded five or more goals at home in a Premier League match. The defeat leaves Spurs in 11th place, intensifying pressure on manager Ange Postecoglou.

For Liverpool, the result continued an incredible run under Slot, who replaced Jürgen Klopp in the summer. The Reds have now won 21 of their 25 matches this season and hold a game in hand over Chelsea.
