Laura Dern feels like she hit the jackpot getting to work with Liam Hemsworth on Lonely Planet — especially when it was time to film their spicy scenes.
“By the time we were doing those scenes, there was nothing we couldn’t talk about together and work out creatively, professionally, all of that,” Dern, 57, said of the sex scene filming process with Hemsworth, 34, in a recent interview with People. “But we also had a lot of support. We had much, much discussion.”
Dern gushed that she was “so lucky” getting to work with Hemsworth those intimate moments because he was “literally the safest person I could ever talk through everything in my life with.” The actress noted that there was “definitely an intimacy coordinator” present for them on set.
“We both, as young actors, have had a lot of other kinds of experiences on movies,” Dern told the outlet about how she and Hemsworth made each other feel comfortable throughout filming.

Dern shared that it was an “incredible” feeling to have the set feel like a safe space for the entire cast and crew.
“Film and filmmaking have changed so that everyone is comfortable in their voice and can set boundaries comfortably without fear of losing a job or being unpopular,” Dern told the outlet.

Hemsworth and Dern star in Lonely Planet, which premiered on Netflix on Friday, October 11. The romantic movie follows a successful female novelist (Dern) who falls in love with a finance manager (Hemsworth) who she meets while staying at a resort in Morocco.
While getting to film in Marrakesh, Hemsworth told People that he and Dern formed a sweet friendship.He added that one moment that stuck out to him was when he and Dern filmed a scene at one of the iconic kasbah markets.

“There were times when we were shooting in the Marrakesh markets where we couldn’t even see the camera … We were completely immersed in it,” he explained. “The whole experience of filming was that it just felt like we were hanging out and it was getting captured at the same time.”
Hemsworth teased that instead of working on a movie it felt like he and his costar were “hanging out as Laura and Liam, and someone was filming it somewhere.”

Before Lonely Planet, neither Dern nor Hemsworth have worked together. However, Hemsworth did express his excitement to star in the project with the Oscar winner.
“Sharing scenes with Laura Dern was an absolute privilege,” Hemsworth said in a statement to Netflix in October. “She has this remarkable talent for drawing you in, making every moment feel intimate and real.”
