Author Laura Dave is gearing up for The Last Thing He Told Me season 2 — and so are fans.
“The show is gonna get to be a big surprise to me,” Dave, 47, told Us Weekly exclusively earlier this year. “There’s a wonderful team of writers in place. My husband is involved, but actually I don’t hear anything because it’s happening. I’m gonna get to see all that a little bit later.”
After Dave’s The Last Thing He Told Me novel was released in May 2021, Apple TV+ released its TV adaptation starring Jennifer Garner inApril 2023. Production on the show began as Dave was simultaneously working on a sequel to the book.
“I trust everybody so much and they care so much about these characters, I get to just enjoy it and see what’s coming,” Dave said about the show. “It’s also making me hurry up and finish the book so I can go get involved.”

Despite her excitement for the upcoming season, she’s keeping details about the future of Hannah’s story close to the vest — for now, at least.

“I will say this, Hannah, we got to watch her become the hero of her own life in the first book and in the second book, she’s even more badass,” Dave teased.
On Wednesday, November 20, Garner posted a video of her back in action as Hannah alongside her The Last Thing He Told Me costars Angourie Rice and Nikolaj Coster Waldau.
“Well, well, well … look who we found,” she captioned the video. “#TheLastThingHeToldMe Season 2 is in production!”
Dave also gushed to Us about getting to work alongside Garner when it came to bringing her book to life.

While The Last Thing He Told Me sequel doesn’t have a release date just yet, Dave did publish her latest book, The Night We Lost Him, in September. She also told Us that there will be some crossover between the two novels.
“In two of my books, characters have appeared with each other,” she said. “Actually in a fun way, some of the characters in this book [The Night We Lost Him] are going to be appearing in my next book.”
