6 Key Ministers, Over 1,500 MoUs & Meetings With Diplomats: Advantage Assam 2.0 Set For Grand Start

The event will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will also witness a grand “Jhumoir Binandini” performance in Guwahati’s Sarusajai Stadium a day before. The industry meet, taking place just before the Assam assembly polls, is expected to boost the economies of Assam and the entire Northeast, believe experts.In line with the “double-engine government” vision, PM Modi has directed six key ministers to oversee Advantage Assam 2.0. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will arrive early on February 23 with diplomats from over 35 countries. They will tour Kaziranga National Park and discuss tourism proposals. Jaishankar will also conduct an ‘Act East, Act Fast – Act First’ session with the diplomats.Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia will chair a session on ‘I-Way to Vikshit Assam’, focusing on enhancing Assam’s six airports. Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw will address the crucial topic of semiconductors, while his colleague Hardeep Singh Puri will discuss hydrocarbon opportunities. The valedictory session will be presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Yet another session will be chaired by minister Piyush Goyal.Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has dedicated significant efforts to ensure the summit’s success. “Over 18,000 registrations have been received, along with proposals for over 1,500 MoUs, potentially attracting investments exceeding Rs 1 lakh crore. A cabinet meeting on February 23 will expedite the approval of these proposals,” he said.One of the key highlights is the establishment of a semiconductor unit in Morigaon, Assam, by Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Pvt Ltd (TSAT). This Rs 27,000 crore project will produce up to 48 million semiconductor chips daily, creating 15,000 direct and 11,000-13,000 indirect jobs, boosting the regional economy.Advantage Assam 2.0 will also focus on developing a defence corridor in the state. Industry giants like Gautam Adani and Natarajan Chandrasekharan are expected to attend.
