2025 Golden Globes: Andrew Garfield’s Glasses Were the Real Winner

New year, new glasses? Andrew Garfield got social media swooning after his hot appearance at the 2025 Golden Globes — but in an unlikely turn of events, it’s all about his reading glasses.
The British actor, 41, was appearing alongside Kerry Washington to announce the nominees for Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical/Comedy, at the Sunday, January 5 ceremony in Los Angeles when, in order to better read the teleprompter, he slipped on his glasses — and Garfield’s thirst trap has made him an early contender for one of the Internet’s Best Boyfriends of 2025.
Admittedly, a few things helped sex up this seemingly innocuous moment: Garfield’s dark green Gucci suit looked perfect on him, especially with the matching shirt that happened to be slightly unbuttoned, revealing a cute pendant — and, most of all, there’s the fact that Garfield is a man who really knows how to hold eye contact and flirt with the camera (who can forget that iconic Chicken Shop Date appearance?).
Garfield’s special moment immediately captured the attention of Golden Globes viewers on social media, with comments from fans via X including, “I would sign over my house for Andrew Garfield to look at me and then put on his glasses,” “ANDREW GARFIELD STOP STARING AT ME LIKE THAT ESPECIALLY WITH GLASSES I CAN’T HANDLE THAT LOOK,” and, “They could create a whole 10+ minutes video of people thirsting over Andrew Garfield solely for looking too fine while putting his reading glasses on.”

Meanwhile, his co-presenter Washington, 47, was unwittingly delivering some beautiful words that were the perfect accompaniment to Garfield’s scene-stealing moment. “A great performance has the power to transport us,” she said, as the We Live In Time star slowly slipped on his spectacles and adjusted his lapel. “When an actor falls so deeply into character that we as an audience get lost in their portrayal, the result is magic, we become spellbound, unable to take our eyes off of them.” We sure do!

In an emotional acceptance speech, she gushed, “I really wasn’t expecting that, I’m just in shock right now” — which pretty much sums up how we all feel about Garfield and his reading glasses too.

But here’s the thing, Garfield is 41 years old. And no matter how famous and successful you are, and how many skyscrapers you’ve scaled as Spider-Man, middle age can only mean one thing: deteriorating eyesight. So, if you’re a millennial or Gen X-er who’s starting to struggle with the small print too, just know that next time you consider using a selfie stick to read a restaurant menu, you’re in good company — farsightedness even takes down smolderingly sexy superheroes.
