Mumbai is known as the city that never sleeps. Indeed, food enthusiasts here will always have something new to discover and explore. September brings a fresh wave of culinary excitement to the city’s dining scene. Foodies have a lot to check out as the rains begin to decrease and the city takes on a refreshed look. 1. Bombay Daak, Bandra

Bombay Daak is celebrated Chef Niyati Rao and Sagar Neve’s latest venture. At this new bar, the duo behind the award-winning Ekaa presents “daaru” and “chakna” which are odes to India’s rich drinking culture. The Tasting Menu experience allows diners to engage with the team in an open kitchen setting, while the a la carte menu consists of hyper-local cocktails. Each of the small plates and drinks has been curated after a year of extensive research around the country. Moreover, the intimate thirty-seater space aims to capture the mood of a pre-colonial Indian bar with deep wooden interiors, hand-painted botanical tiles, lamps restored from an old Bombay British whiskey bar and other thoughtful touches.

2. Waarsa, Nariman Point

The legendary National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) has a marvellous new dining destination, helmed by celebrated Chefs Rahul Akerkar and Mukhtar Qureshi. Waarsa is a deliciously heartfelt ode to Awadh and its rich legacy of flavours, aromas and culinary techniques. The menu aims to take you on a journey through not just the royal kitchens of Awadh but also the homes of cooks from the region, who travelled to different parts of the country. Waarsa has an expansive range of vegetarian and non-vegetarian delights brimming with robust yet balanced flavours. These intricacies are also reflected in its delicately crafted house cocktails. The restaurant’s elegant design is the brainchild of esteemed restoration architect Abha Narain Lambah, known for her work on UNESCO World Heritage sites.

3. Bumipura, Lower Parel

Lower Parel has a new cocktail bar that promises an exciting plunge into the vibrant flavours of Singapore and Malaysia reinterpreted with influences from India’s cocktail culture. Bumipura was conceptualised and founded by Ming Yang Chai from Malaysia. The menu features 8 iconic Malaysian and Singaporean dishes in a cocktail and bar bite experience. Signature offerings include the ‘Dear Seri’ that turns the well-known treat, Nasi Lemak, into a cocktail. There’s also a Kopiko-inspired cocktail and others with unique non-vegetarian flavours. Bumipura’s storyline is set 100 years into the future and imagines India as a true force to be reckoned with. This is reflected in the decor, which blends ancient and modern elements to create a distinctively grounded yet futuristic vibe.

4. Next Door, Bandra

Another recent Bandra opening is Next Door, an all-day restaurant and bar spread across three floors. The ground floor boasts a warm, community-centric ambience. The first floor has an electrifying dance floor and bar and forms an exciting party zone. Finally, Next Door also offers a rooftop experience for a relaxing dinner and drinks under the stars. The menu, curated by Chef Ritesh Tulsian, includes Indian, European, Mediterranean, and Asian delights that can be paired with a variety of cocktails.

5. Abokado, Bandra

Bandra truly has no shortage of options when it comes to good food and great vibes. A unique spot opened towards the end of August: a 12-seater all-day cafe named after the Japanese word for “avocado”. The menu at Abokado promises a creative blend of avocado with Japanese flavours. Diners can enjoy a selection of small plates, snacks, sushi, rice bowls and more in a cosy space featuring clean lines, natural materials, and a serene ambience.

6. Tokyo Matcha Bar, Bandra

Bandra has a buzzing new beverage spot in the form of Tokyo Matcha Bar, which has launched its first-ever dine-in location. Helmed by Meher Kohli and Chef Rahul Ramnani, Tokyo Matcha Bar promises a refreshing alternative to the ubiquitous tea & coffee culture of Mumbai. The decor, inspired by the Wabi-Sabi philosophy, has a modern yet minimalist aesthetic that channels the serenity of Japanese teahouses. Menu highlights include Matcha Vanilla Bean Latte, The Frozen Matcha Lemonade, Wild Berry Matcha Iced Tea and Fresh Lime Matcha, among others. There’s also a selection of Boba Teas, Iced Teas, Hot Coffees, Cold Brews, and more. Tokyo Matcha Bar also has a tempting food menu featuring Southeast Asian-inspired dishes. Expect treats ranging from spring rolls and wontons to noodles and soft serves.

7. My, Oh My!, Andheri

My, Oh My! Live Kitchen & Bar is one of Andheri West’s newest openings. The menu features treats bursting with Italian and European flavours to be paired with handcrafted cocktails. There is also an array of non-alcoholic options to choose from. The inner section of the restaurant has an open kitchen while the outdoor area has a skylight roof and house-grown microgreens. Community tables add to the welcoming atmosphere.

8. The Bombay Cartel, Fort

The Bombay Cartel has a cool new outpost in Kala Ghoda. The restaurant and bar combine the historic essence of its location with its signature modern flair. It has also launched a new cocktail menu, called ‘Bombay Zara Hatke’. Each drink is meant to pay homage to the city’s vibrant culture and heritage. As for food, The Bombay Cartel is known for its wide range of vegetarian delights for every mood.

9. Blabber All Day, Thane

Thane has a fab new cafe and bar: Blabber All Day. Diners can feast on a range of elegant comfort food spanning Asian, Italian and Indian cuisines. There are also delicious cocktails and other types of drinks that promise to contribute to an unforgettable dining experience. Like its other outlets, Blabber All Day Thane boasts a beautiful European-inspired decor that makes for a picturesque background for your meal, pictures and videos.

10. Episode One, Thane

Thane, get ready to enjoy drinks and delights in a fab new Victorian garden-themed, omakase-style restobar! Following its success in Powai, Episode One has opened in Viviana Mall. This speakeasy-style cocktail bar, spread over 2400 sq. ft., promises a captivating experience. The menu, curated by Chef Arvinda, spotlights global flavours with a contemporary twist, featuring dishes like Malai Truffle Chicken Meatballs, Millet Chicken Haleem, and Pav Bhaji with Garlic Burrata. The bar is led by Head Mixologist Sandeep Sharma, and guests can sip on cocktails on tap, exclusive creations inspired by the Victorian era, and several other fascinating concoctions.

11. Raasta Bombay, Khar

Raasta Bombay, the iconic multi-level bar and restaurant has undergone a complete transformation, offering a new take on Caribbean-inspired flavours and an exciting atmosphere. The revamped space has been designed to accommodate larger crowds while enhancing the overall ambience. As day turns to night, the energy shifts and the space becomes a high-energy lounge. Signature dishes include Fafa, Jambalaya, Cigar rolls, Caribbean Chicken Strips, Caribbean Chicken Curry and Goat Stew. Among the cocktails, get ready to enjoy Caribbean concoctions like the Fog Cutter and Purple Haze as well as Devil’s Bay, Puerto Rico, Bahama and Barbados.
